With conventional production methods, as much as 60%-90% of the original oil is left in place. The industry calls these trapped resources “stranded oil.”
The Rock Well Technique is based on the application of basic and widely used mining and underground drilling concepts to oil production. Unlike conventional oil companies that drill from the surface, Rock Well produces oil by tunneling underneath the oil reservoir and drilling from the tunnel into the reservoir. Oil is produced by gravity drainage and then pumped to the surface. Reservoirs that rely primarily on gravity are proven to have exceptionally high oil recovery factors.
The company uses specific proprietary reservoir assessment criteria to identify undervalued oil fields that are optimal for the application of the Rock Well Technique. The Rock Well Technique allows us to substantially increase the production of the oil that remains in place. Rock Well’s skills and knowledge from industries outside of oil and gas create value where very little previously existed.
Rock Well combines recent technological advances in the oil and gas industry, such as under-balanced drilling and measurement while drilling, with core technologies from the mining and tunneling industries to produce a well density that is impossible from the surface. The well density achieved by the Rock Well Technique results in much greater and more efficient reservoir contact, significantly faster recovery and higher recovery rates than conventional oil production from the surface.
The Rock Well Technique substantially reduces ecological unit impact by minimizing surface disturbance and reclaiming wild habitat through the removal of existing infrastructure.
